About this disease
What it concerns
The rotator cuff surrounds the humeral head and allows for high level shoulder mobility. With age, there is progressive wearing down of these tendons. This can lead to elevation of the humeral head and progressive wear of the articular cartilage, resulting in a painfully limited mobility of the shoulder. A distinction is made between different stages of wear. However, the restriction of the patient in everyday life also plays a major role, be it through pain or through the limited mobility and quality of life.
Symptoms and consequences
In the early stages, there is pain dependent on movement and strain. Later, pain may also occur at rest and at night. At the same time, the patient's mobility decreases.
How we can help you
Examination and diagnosis
The examinations include a detailed physical examination and, if necessary, X-rays or MRI. The findings are then discussed and we develop a treatment concept in agreement with the patient. This may include conservative measures such as physiotherapy, painkillers or injections. In some cases, however, surgery may also be necessary.
Treatment
In the case of a conservative therapy, we follow the treatment progress in the course of regular check-ups during consultation hours. Depending on the degree of suffering and the restriction of the quality of life, it may be necessary to implant an inverse shoulder prosthesis when all conservative measures have been exhausted. The patient will decide when this should be carried out. We accompany the patients before, during and after the operation and maintain close contact with the physiotherapists who are treating them.
