About this disease
What it is about
In recent years, involuntary childlessness has increased. Women and men are affected equally often. One of the reasons is a change in lifestyle: family planning has shifted to a later stage in life for many couples. However, the chance of becoming pregnant spontaneously decreases significantly after the age of 35. In addition, childlessness can have hormonal as well as organic causes.
Types
Both organic and hormonal causes can reduce the chance of pregnancy. Limited ovarian reserve may be a hormonal cause. Organic causes include impaired fallopian tube permeability, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome and fibroids.
Symptoms and consequences
If pregnancy does not occur after one year of unprotected and regular sexual intercourse, one speaks of an unfulfilled desire for a child. If you are 35 or older, you draw the line after only six months. When something supposedly normal does not work out, this often leads to feelings such as disappointment, sadness and loss of control, which not infrequently also puts a strain on the couple relationship.
What we do for you
Examination and diagnosis
We offer an individual consultation and clarification. The examinations include hormone determination in the blood to exclude a hormonal and/or functional disorder of the ovaries as well as the examination of regular ovulation with ultrasound. If organic causes are suspected, hysterosalpingo-graphy to visualize the fallopian tubes, laparoscopy if endometriosis is suspected, and uterus endoscopy are used.
Treatment
Thanks to different treatment options, the chance of having a child can usually be positively influenced. With insemination, sperm are transferred into the uterus. Medication in the form of tablets or injections is used to provide hormonal stimulation to mature eggs and trigger ovulation.
